The 10 BIOTOXDoc doctoral candidates participated in the symposium on Advancements in Monitoring Food Contamination and Quality, organized by PHOTONFOOD in collaboration with DigiFoods and FoodSafeR, held in November 2024 in Tulln, Austria. This event provided valuable insights into emerging challenges in food safety and brought together innovative research, engaging demonstrations, and interesting talks, highlighting the future of food quality and safety.
The BIOTOXDoc contributions were:
Poster award for Darina Balková and Alessandro Volkov, congratulations!
Poster presentations by all attending PhD candidates.
Oral presentations by Maryam Dehbasteh and Richa Raj.

The Gordon Research Conferences are internationally recognized for their unique format and excellence in scientific exchange, and 8 out of 10 BIOTOXDoc PhDs participated in the Gordon Research Seminar
(GRS) and Gordon Research Conference (GRC) on Mycotoxins and Phycotoxins, held in June 2025 at Stonehill College, Massachusetts, USA. The GRS offered a platform for early-stage researchers to present their work, connect with peers, and engage in scientific discussion. This was followed by the GRC, where global experts presented latest advances in mycotoxin and phycotoxin research, all in an open and collaborative setting.
The BIOTOXDoc contributions were:
Poster award for Richa Raj, congratulations!
Poster presentations by all attending PhD candidates.
Oral presentations by Elham Atallah, Filip Petronijevic, Maria Paula Gómez Román, and Richa Raj.

The PhD candidate Darina Balková presented her PhD research at the YoungResearchersSession of the EU Food Safety Forum 2025 (Rome, Italy) to an audience of researchers, policymakers and industry representatives. She received the Best Presentation Award supported by BMC (part of Springer Nature) and was one of the young scientists selected to record a podcast episode about our work provided by LVA.
Other conferences:
- Mycotoxin Workshop 2024: Poster presentation (Vienna, Austria)
- Mycotoxin Workshop 2025: Poster presentation (Martina Franca, Italy)
- XXX SIPaV Congress 2025: Flash talk (Catania, Italy)
- PHEM Forum 2026: Poster presentation (Piacenza, Italy)

The PhD candidate Klaudia Moskot presented at the NWO Chains 2025 conference (Veldhoven, the Netherlands), one of the largest (1300-1500 participants annually) Dutch conferences for chemistry, bringing together a broad community of academic and industrial researchers. She gave an oral presentation on her recent work, “Detection of volatile organic compounds from Fusarium graminearum as markers of fungal infection”, leading to engaging discussions on indirect approach for mycotoxin detection.
Other conferences:
- Mycotoxin Workshop 2024 (Vienna, Austria)
- The Forum for Analytical Science and Technology (FAST) 2025 (Maastricht, the Netherlands): poster presentation
- 38th KNPV Fusarium working group meeting (Utrecht, the Netherlands): oral presentation
- The Forum for Analytical Science and Technology (FAST) 2026 (Maastricht, the Netherlands): poster presentation
